The Steel Dump Body is a popular body mainly used in construction, but also used by cities and counties. The most popular are the 2-3 yard and the 3-4 yard bodies. The 3-4 yard are usually mounted on heavier duty chassis like the Ford F550 with 19,000 lbs GVWR. The reason for the variable is that there is a slot for a short board which changes it from a 2 to a 3 yard and from a 3 to a 4 yard. The Dump Hoist is usually mounted with a subframe.
The Steel Dump is available from most manufacturers with fold-down sides. The fold-down sides are much more popular on the 2-3 yard than the larger bodies because the sides are made of steel and are very heavy. The fold-down sides have limited use in most situations but can be a benefit to your customer by being able to load the body with a forklift. Some manufacturers make dumps that dump to the side in addition to dumping in the back. The most popular by far is the rear dumping style.
Many accessories are available for the Steel Dump Body including under bed boxes, HD Pintle/ball hitches, cab shields, and more.
