Contractor Body
(AKA Flatbed w/Boxes and Other Upgrades in a Package)

This is one of the great bodies that are a favorite in the field with end users. The Contractor Body as is typical is a flatbed with a tapered headboard, painted white, with upper boxes of various designs, but most have open top lids like a service body and fold-down doors for larger items. It also comes with underbed boxes on both sides, short gates around the back end, a load divider at the back of the upper boxes, a HD rack, class IV receiver and trailer plug. You can delete items or add more items like rear underbed boxes with a connecting skirt, but most companies now selling the Contractor have these items as standard equipment. So, you could say it is a loaded flatbed!

Some people tend to confuse the Contractor with the Combo Body. The Contractor is a flatbed with things added to it and a Combo Body is a steel Service Body with a work platform added. They are very different and made of different materials.

Here's one great feature of the Contractor Body (and I have seen this done by a neighbor): you can remove the upper boxes, gates, and rack (if a Harbor since ours are bolted on, not welded) and then you have a regular flatbed so you can transport large objects. Then when you are done with that job, just rebolt the items and you're back to a Contractor Body. How useful is that? My neighbor moved his whole house that way.

The Contractor is available in a 9' Single Rear Model, 10' Dually Model, 12' and 14' Models. The Single Rear Model is rare and doesn't offer the space Contractor buyers love. The 10' on 60" CA trucks and the 12' on 84" CA trucks are the most popular by far. The 14' is most popular on the Tilt Cab trucks, but is also installed on conventional cabs.

You can also customize the Contractor. Since it is a flatbed as the base product, you can mix and match pretty much anything you desire to make it more useful to you. I've seen Lincoln welders, compressors, generators, built in Craftsman HD tool chests, different boxes, layers of boxes, drawers, cross boxes, liftgates, dump hoists (hard to believe, but yes!), cargo bed enclosures. . . the list goes on and on. If you can imagine it, it can be built.
